Mine to Carry

Your feelings are mine to carry,

A weight I bear, a burden to consider.

In each choice, in every move I make,

I must feel, I must manage, for your sake.

I think of you in all I do,

Ensuring I don’t cause harm to you.

I adjust, I soften, I reshape,

To guard your heart from any ache.

But my own feelings, they are mine,

To hold, to heal, to define.

They are not yours to carry, to tend,

Not yours to shape, nor to amend.

No, my emotions don’t demand

That you hold them in your hand.

I cannot claim your careful thought

For the feelings that I’ve got.

For my feelings are just mine to feel,

To nurture, to manage, and to heal.

No action of yours, no spoken word,

Should ever bend to what I’ve heard.

My feelings do not give me sway,

No power, no claim, no rights today.

I am the keeper of my heart,

And from my mind, I shall not part.
